The Murty Science Fellowship aims to support globally competitive early-career faculty. If your candidate is among the top 3 promising future scientists in their field, as acknowledged by the international fraternity, they have a good chance of being selected. Please make sure to follow our nomination guidelines for submission of a CV, reference letters, research proposal, and candidate interview.

The fellowship nomination criteria do not restrict applications from anywhere in the world; the focus remains only on your candidate being globally competitive.
We want 3 professional reference letters from referees who have not directly worked with the nominee as an advisor or collaborator. The remaining references can be from colleagues they directly interface with. A total of 6 references are required.
Yes, the research proposal must highlight what the candidate aims to achieve over the next 5 years, with a brief section on future directions beyond the 5-year timeframe.
Yes, we pay 10% overheads for the first fellow at any host institution and 5% for consecutive fellows, as long as there is overlap between the fellows’ tenures.
Beyond the 5-year tenure, fellows are supported through a no-cost extension, for up to 1.5 years.
There is no limit for how many fellows can be at one institution at any given time. However, each institution can nominate a maximum of two fellows per year.
All nominated candidates must be within 7 years from their date of PhD. If a nomination is not compliant, it will still be counted as a nomination from the institution.
Absolutely. Because the Murty Science Fellowship is complimentary to institutional and other funds, we request the fellow to share their other sources of support.
All host institutions must ensure that the MoU with the Trust provides sufficient clarity for fellows at their institutions to participate in the fellowship equitably and as intended. Fellows who are found to be disadvantaged by institutional rules will subsequently not be renewed.
Murty Science Fellows need to commit at least 50% of their time to research. The institution should be aware of this when signing the MoU and plan for teaching responsibility accordingly.
Nominees must have a permanent appointment or formal commitment to the same, when their nomination package is submitted.
